About This Game

Rivermark Chronicles is a browser-based, single-player role-playing game that uses mechanics and content from the 5e System Reference Document (SRD) only. It is inspired by classic computer RPGs with grid exploration and tactical turn-based combat.

This application is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any company that holds trademarks related to popular fantasy tabletop brands. The names “Dungeons & Dragons”, “D&D”, “Forgotten Realms”, and “Wizards of the Coast” are trademarks of their respective owners and are not used as product branding in this game. In-game text refers to the rules as “the open 5e system” or “5e SRD rules”.

Architecture Notes

All gameplay content (maps, tiles, NPCs, monsters, items, quests, dialogue trees) is stored in MySQL. PHP provides a JSON API; the browser never accesses the database directly. This design supports future multiplayer sessions and user-generated maps without rewriting the core engine.
